Christ Hospital in Cincinnati Employs Gynecologist it Once Banned

Operation Rescue is calling for those of conscience to avoid using Christ Hospital in Cincinnati

Cincinnati, OH – An abortionist that provides emergency hospital care to injured abortion patients of late-term abortionist Martin Haskell has been hired by the same hospital that stripped him of privileges just last year.

In a press release issued by Christ Hospital on May 1, 2012, it was announced that Walter T. Bowers, II, would be employed by Christ Hospital as a Gynecologist and has moved his office into their facility.

However, in July, 2011, Christ Hospital terminated Bower’s hospital privileges pending the outcome of the Ohio Medical Board’s decision on charges his was negligent in causing the death of a wanted baby in Kentucky.

“It is outrageous that Bowers is being embraced by Christ Hospital in light of his past history of fatal negligence and dishonesty,” said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue and Pro-Life Nation. “This man is not fit to practice medicine.”

Bowers has held himself out to be Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, but according to his own deposition taken in August, 2011, Bowers is not and never has been Board Certified in any specialty. A check with the American Board of Medical Specialties indicated that Bowers holds no Board Certification.

Bowers also attempted to conceal from the Ohio Medical Board his employment at Clinic for Women, an abortion clinic in Indianapolis. He told the Ohio Medical Board under oath that he did not practice in Indiana, when in fact he had listed Clinic for Women as his Indiana address on his medical license in that state.

Bowers, has a written agreement to provide emergency hospital care to injured abortion patients of Martin Haskell, who offers extremely late-term abortions in Dayton and Sharonville, Ohio. Because of Haskell’s agreement with Bowers and another physician, the Ohio Department of Health has issued a variance allowing Haskell to continue to operate even though he personally has no hospital privileges as required by law.

Haskell is currently under investigation by the Ohio Medical Board after a pattern of botched abortions was uncovered by pro-life activists.

Operation Rescue objected to Bowers’ agreement with Haskell after it was learned that he paid out $250,000 after being sued by a family that lost a wanted baby due to Bowers’ negligence. That caused Kentucky to bar him from the practice of obstetrics, put him under investigation in the State of Indiana, and prompted a Board action to be launched against him in Ohio.

In October, 2011, the Ohio Medical Board reprimanded Bowers for the avoidable death and placed him on two years of probation.

“We ask Christ Hospital to seriously reconsider their affiliation with Bowers, who places them squarely in cahoots with Haskell’s dangerous late-term abortion business,” said Newman. “This looks like a backroom deal to keep Haskell’s abortion business afloat. Bowers has proven that he cannot be trusted to tell the truth or provide adequate health care. This is a black eye to Christ Hospital. We are asking all those who support life to abstain from using Christ Hospital for their health care needs until they disaffiliate with Bowers and with the heinous practice of abortion.”

Background

Please contact Christ Hospital and ask them to disaffiliate with Bowers and with any ties to the abortion industry.

Complaints Against Ohio Nurses Are Soaring
Complaints against nurses in Ohio have almost doubled in the last five years. The complaints involve everything from fraudulent work schedules, to patient abuse and drugs.
While most nurses do a wonderful job, Local 12's Rich Jaffe found the soaring numbers only tell part of a troubling story.
Last April, Warren County Nurse Sharon Ward-Douglas was found guilty on drug charges. In one year Douglas wrote prescriptions using her mother's name, her friends' names, and two people who didn't even exist.
A year earlier before she started writing the illegal prescriptions, Local 12 found Douglas signed a consent decree with the Ohio Board of Nursing that put her under intense scrutiny and reporting rules because she admitted falsifying her work records. After her drug conviction Douglas' nursing license was revoked. Sentenced to four years in prison, she's out after serving just one year in prison.
Her case is just one of thousands that have flooded the Ohio Board of Nursing. "The Board of Nursing has observed a marked increase in complaints over the last five years and the board has effectively managed that increase. The Board of Nursing does not have a backlog "we've implemented strategies to address the increase."
But criminal investigators say the solution is much more complicated. "This is the kind of crime that again unless somebody is looking at it and somebody reports properly, you're never ever going to get an accurate count. Whatever you're seeing, whatever the count is I can guarantee you it's many many times higher, because if nobody's reporting it and nobody's looking at it, it appears to almost not exist."
From 2007-2008, the state board of nursing received 7,726 complaints. That number grew 34% over the next two year period. In 2010-2011 that number is expected to grow another 17% to just under 14,000.
To cope, the nursing board has added investigators and hearing officers. Ohio Law says employers must report nurses suspected of wrongdoing but the head of Warren County's drug task force says some employers turn a blind eye. "The problem is so many institutions, hospitals and nursing homes don't report this."
From 1990-1999 John Burke ran Cincinnati's Pharmaceutical Diversion Unit. At that time his detectives were arresting a nurse every week, he and other experts say with only a handful of investigators in Ohio trained in this type of crime, the public is at serious risk.
Dr. Bill Rogers is a cop and a doctor handling pharmaceutical cases for Hamilton County's Drug Task Force. He says the nursing problem is part of the pill pandemic sweeping the country. "There's a reason why these things are controlled, because they do affect performance, memory, insight, all the things we expect from our healthcare professionals. So there's yet another reason why you should be concerned as a patient, is my healthcare professional working high?"
The head of the Nursing Board says the number of nurses is growing. That coupled with better employer and patient education programs is driving up the number of complaints. "You can talk to the nursing board but they're not law enforcement and we can work side by side with them, I have no problem with that but ultimately this is a crime and law enforcement needs to investigate it."
Nursing licenses rarely get revoked, many are simply suspended and without criminal intervention, those nurses frequently go back to work. "When you think about putting a nurse back in the situation where he or she is handling controlled substances and this is the product they were addicted to it's almost like making an alcoholic into a bartender."
"The vast majority of nurses are providing safe practice, so we're working very hard to protect the public and we're addressing if there isn't safe practice."
But this expert says it's not enough. "We have no idea, no idea, never did, but especially don't, when you don't have anybody looking at it."
Kentucky and Indiana are also experiencing an increase in complaints.
Experts say if you notice a negative change in a loved one when the nurse is around, there may be a problem. If you suspect a nurse is behaving improperly, contact a nursing supervisor, police and / or the State Board of Nursing.
